About Therapist

Hello, my name is Nina. Have you experienced a traumatic event in your life? For some people, trauma was experienced in childhood, or through sexual assault, being involved in an accident, being in an emotionally or physically abusive relationship, not having your basic needs met, or experiencing it through your work as a frontline worker.

Untreated trauma can fester in one's body and present as anxiety/panic, depression, anger, irritability, sleep/eating issues, inability to concentrate, low self-esteem, or intimacy issues.

I specialize in working with people who are experiencing symptoms related to trauma. I am formally trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing). I also use CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy), DBT (dialectical behaviour therapy) and talk therapy.

Treatment Approach

  • A widely used therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors, helping clients develop healthier thinking and coping strategies.

  • Originally developed for individuals with borderline personality disorder, DBT combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help clients manage emotions and improve interpersonal effectiveness.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy designed to help individuals process traumatic experiences. During sessions, clients recall distressing memories while engaging in guided eye movements or bilateral stimulation. This process reduces the emotional charge of traumatic memories, allowing clients to reframe their experiences. EMDR is particularly effective for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety, facilitating lasting relief and emotional well-being.

  • Narrative therapy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on the stories individuals tell about their lives. It views problems as separate from the person, allowing clients to reframe their narratives and gain a sense of agency. By exploring and rewriting these stories, clients can uncover new perspectives, identify strengths, and create positive change. This approach emphasizes the importance of personal meaning and cultural context, helping individuals to understand their experiences in a way that promotes healing and growth.

  • Developed by Carl Rogers, this humanistic approach emphasizes creating a supportive environment where clients can explore their feelings and thoughts, facilitating personal growth and self-discovery.

  • Strength-based therapy focuses on identifying and leveraging an individual's strengths and resources to foster resilience and personal growth. By emphasizing what clients do well, this approach encourages positive change and empowers individuals to overcome challenges.

  • Trauma-focused therapy is designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. It addresses the emotional, psychological, and behavioral effects of trauma, using techniques that promote safety, understanding, and coping strategies for recovery.

Outside The Therapy Session

My Favorite Quote: “The wound is the place where light enters you.“

Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy exploring various hobbies that enrich my life and contribute to my personal growth. I have a passion for reading, particularly books that delve into psychology, self-improvement, and cultural narratives. Some of my favorite authors include Brené Brown and Malcolm Gladwell, as their insights inspire my approach to therapy.

I also love spending time in nature, whether it’s hiking or simply enjoying a peaceful walk in the park. This helps me to recharge and reflect. Additionally, I enjoy practicing mindfulness and meditation, which not only benefit my well-being but also enhance my therapeutic practice.
