Treatment Approach
-
Art Therapy is a creative therapeutic approach that uses artistic expression to help individuals explore their emotions, improve self-awareness, and process trauma. By engaging in various art forms, clients can communicate feelings that may be difficult to articulate verbally, facilitating healing and personal growth.
-
Feminist Therapy focuses on empowering individuals by addressing societal and cultural factors that impact mental health and well-being. This approach emphasizes equality, social justice, and the importance of understanding gender roles, aiming to foster self-acceptance and promote personal agency in the context of relationships and societal expectations.
-
Person-Centered Therapy, developed by Carl Rogers, emphasizes creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can explore their feelings and experiences. This approach prioritizes the client's perspective, fostering self-discovery and personal growth through empathy, active listening, and unconditional positive regard.

Outside The Therapy Session
Outside of my work as a therapist, I most often spend time making art of many kinds, tending to my plants, and enjoying nature with my dog. I can also be found catching up on the latest Canadian Art Therapy Association publications or practicing mindfulness, taking into account my own mental wellbeing and ensuring I am in the best state to practice and entirely present for my clients.
One of my favourite quotes is that of artist and author Pam Holland, "Art speaks where words are unable to explain" (2017). While Holland is addressing street art and graffiti on Roosevelt Row, downtown Phoenix, Arizona, her words are true of artmaking as a whole.
Art is a visual language, a method of processing, an instrument to express oneself, and you don't need to be an artist to use it.
